Coche Island
Isla de Coche (Coche Island) is one of three islands forming the Nueva Esparta State of Venezuela, located in the Caribbean between Isla Margarita and the mainland. The other two are Isla Margarita, the main island of the state, and Cubagua, the smallest.
It is uniquely positioned for quality selective tourism (not massive). To the west of the island the conditions for windsurfing and kiteboarding can be cited among the best in the world due to it´s strong winds (over 27 knots) and a sea without waves. The effect of the strong winds can be observed on the sparse vegetation of the island, as seen in the image of San Pedro de Coche.
As in most of The Caribbean, the water is usually between 21º - 27 oC, warm enough to allow windsurfing for hours wearing just a swimsuit or a bikini.
Cycling can be practiced on the island roads, but using sunscreen is strongly advised, given the absence of clouds over the year. The temperature, though high, is pleasant in the fresh sea air, considering that breeze rages precisely in the hottest hours of the afternoon.
You can find some good quality hotels on the island, offering the tourists all the necessary facilities for a pleasant stay. They also offers rides and tours, both aquatic and terrestrial. Coche Island can be reached by sea, both from Margarita Island and the Venezuelan mainland Sucre State.
